PEACH Community Garden

Community Spaces

Everyone deserves space to breathe

PEACH members have wanted a local community space for years. Now, we’re building them — designed by residents, led by young people, rooted in local love.

Fords Park Road Community Garden

We are working with our offshoot, the E16 Community Land Trust, alongside local young people and a committed group of residents to co-design and build a brand new community garden at Fords Park Road. In April 2025, young people helped shape the vision through design workshops, and residents are guiding the plans to ensure the space reflects community needs. Construction began in May 2025.

Planting is due to start in autumn 2025, with the official opening to the whole community in spring 2026. The garden will be a place to grow food, connect with neighbours, and put down roots in Custom House. Residents will be able to grow their own vegetables, take part in seasonal activities, and share in shaping the future of the space.

This will be a space for gathering, growing, learning and relaxing — created and cared for by local hands, with the long-term stewardship provided by the E16 CLT.

Beyond this, we are exploring ways to take on smaller pieces of unused land across Custom House as “pocket sites” for greening and community use. We’re also looking at reclaiming micro-assets such as community noticeboards — restoring pride in the area so these spaces no longer become magnets for fly-tipping or neglect, but places of identity and care.

Past Projects: Burrard Road & Hands Walk

In summer 2023, 20 young people came together to transform neglected green spaces near their homes. With support from Build Up Foundation and the National Lottery, they planted an orchard, installed flower beds and benches, and created vibrant places for the community to enjoy year-round.

They developed new skills, strengthened local pride, and showed what’s possible when young people and residents lead the way.
