After a long Summer of organising, PEACH members hosted their first Housing Club meeting on 13th September 2023. It kicked off to an electric start. In this first meeting, members shared PEACH’s wins over the years and set down the aim of Housing club as a regular space to work on housing campaigns together – followed by a meal and music together! Members were delighted to have a space to come together and speak about their shared housing issues whilst getting to know each other and sharing food.
Members decided to focus on two campaigns: Permanent Homes Now and Safe Homes Now,
discussing ways to build power to make campaigns win. In our November and December Housing Club meetings, members worked together to come up with a list of demands and a vision for the future of the Custom House and Canning Town community.
In the October housing club meeting, members spoke about individual and collective wins, then split into three groups working on our demands, our timelines and strategy for achieving them, setting up a member solidarity space.
In November Housing Club, members spoke about going ahead with the solidarity space, worked in more detail on their demands for safe and permanent homes and prepared for the upcoming meeting with Mayor Fiaz in December.
Housing club is a space open to PEACH members and people who want to find out what PEACH is all about before joining, if you’d like to attend then keep your eyes peeled for announcements.
