Salary: £35,000 – £37.000 DOE

The People’s Empowerment Alliance for Custom House (PEACH) is a pioneering community organisation in East London. We empower members and improve local conditions through collective action. By building resident power in Newham, we’ve achieved notable wins, including 60% rent reductions for 250 temporary tenant households and a £300k rent arrears amnesty.

With over 300 members and 12 years of experience, we are ready to expand our impact. We aim to establish a lasting Community Union and share our expertise with communities across the UK.

We are seeking a Community Organiser to lead our Permanent, Safe Homes Now campaign, which aims to ensure people living in the regeneration zone in Custom House and Canning Town live in safe homes today without fear of getting pushed out of their community. This campaign aims to set a new standard for housing in regeneration areas across the UK. You will be responsible for planning and executing strategic campaigns and building PEACH’s membership, while overseeing overall project delivery. You will collaborate with team members and communicate effectively with the Steering Group to drive organisational growth.

The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of the political landscape and have a strong community organising mindset. You should be confident, empathetic and comfortable engaging with a diverse range of people; inspiring them to take action, step into leadership and advocate for change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to developing PEACH’s collective power as a Community Union with local residents, members, Steering Group, Trustees/Directors, and fellow Organisers.
  • Develop and oversee the execution of strategic plans.
  • Build and maintain solid and transformative relationships with new and existing PEACH members.
  • Cultivate a community organising culture by training members and staff, refining methods, and creating training materials.
  • Identify organising issues with members and develop effective campaign strategies.
  • Lead negotiation strategies with key stakeholders and facilitate engaging meetings and events.
  • Manage and develop projects within budget, ensuring progress through effective administration and planning.
  • Monitor and evaluate PEACH’s work, integrating new learnings into practices.
  • Scope and develop new projects, support fundraising efforts and provide strategic reports to leadership.
