PEACH Programmes

Our programmes are built by and for local people

From building stronger neighbourhood ties to campaigning for safe streets and homes, we’re working together to make Custom House and Canning Town better places to live.

Citizens UK

PEACH is a member of Citizens UK through Newham Citizens. Citizens UK is the country’s biggest community organising alliance, bringing together schools, faith groups, community organisations and residents to win change on the issues that matter — from housing to wages to safety. By working in alliance with others across Newham, PEACH gains greater power and partnerships to secure real improvements for local people.

Building Relationships

We connect neighbours through door-knocking, phone calls, house meetings and local events. It builds trust, grows community knowledge about the issues residents face, and increases participation in decisions that affect the area.

Community Safety

We campaign for better street lighting, map and report problem hotspots, organise neighbour-led clean-ups, and build a visible network of safe shops on the high street. The aim is simple: cleaner, safer streets and faster fixes.

Housing Club

The Housing Club brings tenants together to secure safe, permanent, decent homes. We support residents to raise repairs, challenge damp and mould, and act collectively so landlords and the Council deliver. We do this at our office and by holding surgeries in community spaces across Custom House and Canning Town, alongside partners such as Shelter and Newham Citizens.

Community Infrastructure (E16 CLT)

Through our offshoot, the E16 Community Land Trust, we support community-owned assets. At Ford’s Park Road, the former youth outreach building will, after redevelopment, host PEACH and open rooms to community groups. We’re also progressing Blake Road as a pipeline for permanently affordable homes.

Community Events & Parties

Good times matter. We organise trips, community parties and street events so residents meet, get to know each other and build real neighbourhood ties. Recent 2025 highlights include our Southend seaside trip, Summer party, September community party and more resident-led street events in the pipeline.

Community Kitchen

We are restarting our Community Kitchen (running for the last few years and paused over the summer months). The kitchen brings people together for good food at low cost and strengthens community ties. We also explore practical energy initiatives residents can run together to cut bills where possible.

Community-Led Design

Working with architects and housing specialists, we run consultations and workshops so regeneration reflects residents’ needs. Co-production means the plans benefit the existing community and meet real requirements.

Community Employment

Building on the success of the Custom House Workers’ Coop, PEACH is now setting up a Community Employment Working Group. The group will focus on creating pathways into work through PEACH, starting with cleaning and building out into other local opportunities. We are working with local partners, training providers and skills groups to explore how to generate sustainable jobs, support residents to develop businesses, and increase fair employment in Custom House.
