Residents Win Improvements to Their Homes

Kitchens, Bathrooms and Repairs

Council tenants have come together over the disgraceful conditions of their kitchens, bathrooms and windows. After up to 20 years of council neglect, residents have raised problems related to mould, dampness, broken flooring, cabinets and rotting single glazed windows. Members have described living conditions as “hazardous,” particularly family members who are either elderly or vulnerable. After raising a collective complaint, eight members with some of the most severe living conditions in Hooper Road and Burrard Road have won refurbishments to their homes and eight residents have won new windows. .

Not only this, the council have also promised to deliver a refurbishment programme for the benefit of all Custom House residents. This will mean new kitchens and bathrooms for all and new windows for anyone that needs them. This is an incredible victory for the community who have come together to win improvements on their lives.
